Seven minimalist activities for Christmastime – FemaleFirst.co.uk

If someone in your family or friendship circle is a minimalist, the usual haunts at this time of year might not be to their liking- namely the mall. So, if you want to spend some quality time together that doesn’t involve shopping, here are a few ideas:

Go to a Christmas market: There will be stalls selling Christmas gifts, this can’t be avoided, but you could go to walk around, soak up the atmosphere, buy consumables like mince pies and enjoy a hot chocolate or mulled wine at the end.

Go for a Christmas meal: Check out your local restaurants online- most of them will put on a festive menu during this time of year- you could meet up and go for an early Christmas dinner and put the world to rights.

Attend a lighting ceremony: Many towns and cities make a big deal of turning on their Christmas lights- which is often accompanied by other entertainment. Why not put on your warmest clothes and watch the magic happen together?

Watch a Christmas movie at the cinema: You can guarantee that your local flicks will have a festive movie on show, you could grab yourself some popcorn and a drink and watch something that will put you in the mood for the big day. If you are strapped for cash- choose one on your streaming service at home and bring the cinema experience to your house or apartment.

Build a gingerbread house or bake together: This is the ideal activity if you don’t want to spend a lot and need to get rid of the evidence at the end! Who doesn’t love a Christmas cookie or a slice of cake?!

Go for a festive coffee and a cake: Most coffee shop chains will sell some sort of special drink for the holidays along with a biscuit in the shape of Rudolph or a mince pie to accompany. You could meet up and have a good catch up over these obligatory treats.

Volunteer together: Help is needed at this time of year more than any other- donate your time rather than your money at your local soup kitchen or charity shop- it will be greatly appreciated by those who require it most.

Merry Christmas to all the minimalists out there both old and new!
