This neutral, cosy Ahmedabad apartment redefines elegance

This 115-square-foot home, seeded in a distinctly Hygge sensibility is cocooned in neutral colours, warm wood tones and soft golden sunlight. “Hygge is a Danish concept inspired by tranquil, cosy and clutter-free spaces. We believed the design language resonated with the client’s unfussy lifestyle and strove to create a comfortable, everyday-friendly home with clean lines, organic textures and simple silhouettes. The decor is simple and pared-back, yet sophisticated. We styled each zone with exquisite furniture and accessories that exude an understated elegance,” says Rajesh Sheth, founder and principal architect of Designer’s Circle.

Living Room

Cloaked in oat shades, the living room is a serene expanse unified by colour, yet diversified by patterns and textures. The wood-slatted ceiling introduces three-dimensional character to the linear layout while providing equilibrium to the minimalist herringbone-patterned floor. White leather sofas give the room a sophisticated appeal, counterbalancing the light-grained wooden tables that serve to gently warm the room. A round, asymmetrically placed mirror conveys a chic, left-field vibe. Outside, a sleek balcony mirrors the length of the living room, hosting a row of enlivening plants. “This room perfectly embodies Hygge living. The serene and homely ambience is perfect for unwinding after a long day at work. We were focused on creating an enduring aesthetic that would adapt to new trends over the years, while retaining a warm and homely quality,” says Sheth.

Dining Room

A Stygian-toned stone table and dark-polished chairs highlight the dining room. Meanwhile, a swish statement chandelier overarches the area while serving as a steadfast supplier of task lighting. The dining table decor is minimally curated, seeding the dining zone in an understated elegance.

Kitchen

A melange of white, mint and ochre, the kitchen epitomises a breezy summer’s day. The appliances are intriguingly elusive; the hob is embedded into the counter, while tiles discreetly camouflage the chimney. The cooking area is high on concealed storage, allowing the counters and surfaces to remain immaculate.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is dominated by monochrome and punctuated by warm wooden accents. The headboard, featuring petite triangular geometric motifs, is the hero piece of the room. “The bedroom has a rustic, raw edge to it. From the knocked-back headboard to the angular bedside lamps to the curios on the nightstand, every little detail has a place. The earthy elements converge into a cohesive whole without appearing overbearing,” notes Sheth.

Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom breathes a contemporary air, with matte finishes, neutral palettes and frill-free decor. This bedroom dons various avatars, sometimes hosting guests, other times, the clients’ parents. The enormous black pendant light and ribbed wall panelling provide a harmonious, black-and-white backdrop for the furniture and soft furnishings. The white door and taupe curtains effortlessly blend into the walls, giving the bed pride of place.

TV Lounge & Den

The bijou den is a lesson in minimalism, enveloped in soft textures, pastel hues and simple decor. Veneered, lime-wash-finish walls frame the space, creating the perfect ambience for cosy movie nights. “Despite its size, the room has all the ingredients of a welcoming den—a large LED TV, a sweeping sofa-cum-bed, an AC for warm summer nights, and muted interiors that direct your gaze to the screen,” says Sheth.
