FOR MANY men, the first cool breeze of the fall can be triggering. Your beach body goals came and went (better luck next year), the holidays are coming (time to get your finances in order), and, literally, you need a jacket. Yes, the carefree days of summer are gone. But refreshing your outerwear need not be a source of stress.

Technological advances in fabric and construction have led to a new wave of exciting hybrid outerwear options that combine the best of tailored overcoats, bulky ski jackets, and that hoody you’ve had and will continue to wear for longer than you’ll ever admit. The upshot? You can have the ideal blend of cold weather comfort and style without compromising on your personal preferences.

One brand at the forefront of all this modern menswear innovation is lululemon. It has cultivated a devout following of men who value minimalist design, flattering silhouettes, and features that compliment an active lifestyle. And if there’s one item in their fall lineup that encapsulates the brand’s overall appeal, it’s .

Stay warm without overheating

FALL ISN’T the easiest season to dress for, as temperatures can fluctuate wildly within the course of a single day. Choose the wrong jacket for your fall outing, and you’ll spend your entire day shivering or sweating profusely. Herein lies much of the appeal of the Navigation Jacket.

The lightweight design offers the perfect combination of a windproof, water-repelling fabric with an even distribution of down insulation (called ThermoChannel construction) to provide just the right amount of warmth.

When a brief cold snap hit New York City a few weeks ago, I decided it was time to break out my new fall jacket, though I was skeptical; the Navigation Jacket was lighter in weight than I thought, but still insulated with quilted down, which I usually reserve for those bone-chilling, teeth-chattering, “damn, it’s f*cking cold” days of winter. On a forty-something degree day like this, with the occasional gust of wind, usually a little layering equation involving a leather jacker would do fine. To my pleasant surprise, the Navigation Jacket felt just right.

Without rib-knit cuffs, the jacket allows for easy air flow while still maintaining some heat. Plus, with the lightweight even distribution of down filling, you don’t really feel like you’re wearing a puffer jacket.

Two-way stretch lets you move with ease

I HAVE yet to meet anyone who loves a good leather jacket more than I do. But even I will acknowledge it can feel constricting when doing anything more active than a casual stroll. So when I took my dog for his daily park outing, ball in one hand and the leash of an adorable beast tugging me towards the mile-long grass field in the other, I knew this lululemon jacket was the only choice to top my outfit.

We ran, we played, we chased squirrels (er, he chased squirrels). Through it all, I was able to move freely and comfortably as if I wasn’t even wearing a jacket, thanks to the two-way stretch. Even with its incredible flexibility, the jacket still retains its body skimming shape for a stylish look.

It’s as stylish as it is functional

LOOKING GOOD still matters, even during the cold weather season. When I think back to the down jackets I wore as a kid, they made me look like some sort of artificially-colored marshmallow. I’d prefer something that shows more of my body shape. Well, lululemon’s down jacket provides all the warmth I need without the puffed-out vibe.

This jacket won’t provide enough warmth for the coldest days of winter, but it’s light and thin enough to use as a stylish midlayer under your overcoat to provide maximum warmth with a sharp look. Even guys who are usually baffled by layering can figure out this trick.

And the burnt camel color—rarely seen on a down jacket—is a perfect color choice. It pairs perfectly with anything in your wardrobe: navy, olive green, shades of gray, and more. And since the monochromatic look is a major trend this season, you could easily wear it with and some brown sneakers. It’s simply stylish for men of any age. Though if you prefer something more traditional, the jacket does also come in black.

As these days get shorter, the Navigation Stretch Down Jacket will be a welcomed addition to my fall layering arsenal. It’s versatile, comfortable, flattering, and durable—just what you expect from lululemon. Now that’s one less thing to worry about this season.
