Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) recently honored the Holiday Inn Newport News – Hampton hotel in southeastern Virginia with the distinctive Renovation Award in Architecture and Design for 2018. The award was presented to LTD Hospitality Group at the Owners’ Conference this past May. The esteemed accolade, presented to only 11 hotels in the Americas, recognizes the successful accomplishment of the hotel’s all- inclusive modernization and renovation, which LTD undertook after acquiring the property.
Situated in a prime vantage point to Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, Busch Gardens Williamsburg theme park, military Joint Base Langley-Eustis and the Boo Williams Sportsplex, the space was entirely transformed to focus on adaptability and functionality for the changing needs of business, military and sports travelers. The project encompassed a 100% redesign of the property, highlighting an atmosphere of minimalist opulence and modern charm.
The Renovation Award is given to hotels that are considered the best in class when evaluated on exemplary brand design, quality of construction, and attention to detail.
“We are thrilled to accept this outstanding achievement, which is a tribute to all involved,” said LTD’s Vice President of Asset Management and Facilities, Ken Taylor. “The all-encompassing reinvigoration of this property truly reflects our guests’ needs. We are overjoyed to offer an extraordinary space that compliments the hotel’s exceptional customer service.”
The Virginia Green Certified hotel is composed of 183 guest rooms and suites, 11,000 sq. feet of flexible event space, indoor amphitheater, indoor heated pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, on-site pet center, award-winning restaurant and bar, convenient market café and tech-savvy business center.
During the 18-month renovation, LTD invested significant capital to transform the property into a crowning jewel of next-generation hotels. The outcome was a sleek, cohesive, open space. The expansive lobby integrates the use of natural light, wood and a water theme into its sitting areas to present a warm yet uncluttered space. The 24-hour business center is equipped with computers, printers, copiers, and Wi-Fi availability that extends throughout the entire hotel.
The on-site restaurant / bar, with its award-winning burgers and locally brewed craft beer options, offers a modern open floor plan with a cozy ambiance that expands to its outdoor dining space. The Market Café features a welcoming bakery-meets-coffee-shop vibe with the convenience of an upscale bodega.
In each guest room, spacious accommodations and lustrous décor provide the backdrop for a full menu of deluxe amenities including flat-screen HD TV, mini fridge, microwave and a modern workspace with ample electrical outlets. Guests staying in suites also enjoy a spacious living area with plush couches and a progressively unique kitchenette complete with Keurig coffee machine. Guests with four-legged companions can take advantage of Bark Ave., a sizeable pet play area – the only one of its kind in the vicinity.
“This is a true accomplishment by our entire team and one that we are extremely proud of,” said Liz Parker, General Manager of the Holiday Inn Newport News-Hampton. “Being recognized with this award solidifies the fact that our team, most of whom have been here since Day 1 of the renovation, is truly the fabric of our success.”
The Holiday inn Newport News – Hampton opened in 2018 as part of LTD’s extensive portfolio, and has quickly become a top choice for guests traveling to the Newport News / Williamsburg / Hampton area.
