BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Home Show is in full swing at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, and that has many of us inspired to take on a big home improvement project.
“When someone is coming into your home to do a big project, you want to be able to see and touch the product you’re going to be purchasing,” said Buffalo Home Show Manager Jean Sukys.
Real estate experts say there are three key things you should focus on above others:
1. The kitchen
2. The bathrooms
3. Outdoor living space/cleanliness
According to Joel Husvar of 716 Realty, the kitchen is above all else the most important spot in the house. Husvar says it’s a focal point, but should not be over done.
“The best thing you can do is keep it simple,” he said.
Husvar says to choose neutral tones like whites, greys and browns. Do not get too carried away with too much “extra excess.”
“When you clean up a house, the best thing you can do is replace the countertops, cabinets and make sure the paint is right.”
Home improvement experts recommend minimalist themes. Paint colors should be neutral. Focus on keeping it bright and cheery.
When remodeling the bathroom, keep in mind the same theme as the kitchen. Make sure functionality is recognized. Is your shower easy to get to? Is the bathroom configured in a way that’s easy to clean and clutter out of the way?
Lastly, make sure the outside of your home is just as clean and tidy as the inside.
“Make sure your house from the curb really looks great,” Husvar said. “Remove any overgrown weeds.
Now—what should you avoid?
“You don’t want to make your house too custom,” Husvar said. “Especially if you may resell in the future.”
