MOST WANTED
Founded in 2007, WANT Les Essentiels is the Montreal brand known for its luxuriously minimalist, pared-down accessories that were cool before minimalist was cool. Case in point: this Mini Piper leather backpack, which comes in black, a light pink and this marsala hue, which pairs perfectly with everything we plan on wearing this fall.

CLEAR AS DAY
We’ve always been fans of the see-through bag — obviously, it’s slightly voyeuristic, but we like to think that’s in a cool, not creepy way. Enter this ‘Nova’ backpack by Vancouver’s Herschel Supply Company, which has a handy front storage pocket and contrasting black trims. Bonus points for (a) the fact that it’s basically waterproof (very handy in the next little while) and (b) always being able to easily find what you’re looking for.

LEAF IT TO ME
There’s something about the designer backpack: often drastically overpriced, yet also intensely irresistible. Such is the case with this nylon palm print ‘City’ style by Saint Laurent. Technically, it’s a men’s backpack, but we’re pretty smitten with it and are justifying its steep price tag with promises to take it on outdoors adventures (unlikely if there’s even a chance of rain), wear it with dresses (not so sure, but maybe) and even hand it down to our progeny (fat chance).

BROWN BAG IT
A backpack is an iconic bag style, and Roots is an iconic Canadian brand, so of course, the two coming together equals something, well, iconic. This ‘Raiders’ pack is a reissued style that’s handcrafted in Canada. We love its square shape, which reminds us of vintage children’s backpacks of yesteryear — and also means you can wear it hand-held — rather than on your back — without it losing its shape.
