This week’s edition of House Calls takes us to the Westside of Los Angeles, where photographers Ivan Feign and Kat Phillips remodeled their Mar Vista bungalow.
The back of the home had been bungled in previous remodels and had to be completely torn down. But architects Lewis Schoeplein took the opportunity to create a thoughtful addition as well as a sliding door-lined deck—which opens directly to the kitchen—to meet the duo’s ideal of indoor-outdoor living. On top of the nearly all-white interior, splashes of color and the couple’s collection of artwork create a “bright, sunny, and happy” space, says architect Toni Lewis.
Taking inspiration from the lighthearted home, we sourced key products—or in a few cases, similar finds—from each room so you can bring the look to your own space.
Living Room
In the sunlit living room, a custom Sofa Club sofa and a West Elm Terrace Coffee Table sit on a Sun-Kissed Landscape Rug, also from West Elm. The interiors throughout, except for the master bedroom, are painted Dunn Edwards Whisper.
Kitchen
The kitchen houses Caesarstone Blizzard countertops and cheerful Mutina Tex tile; a mix of Ikea and custom cabinets are finished with painted doors and custom natural teak end panels. Corrigan Studio Holden Bar Stools sit at the island, the cat planter is an Allen Designs Studio Purrs Planter, and a neon banana from Urban Outfitters hangs overhead.
Dining Room
The airy dining room, one of two rooms that were not changed in the renovation, is home to a Room & Board Pratt Desk, Moooi Random Pendant Light, and a West Elm Terrace Bar Cart.
