Taking cues from period architecture, music and minimalist design, these brass products are breathing new and innovative life into otherwise commonplace objects. Take a look at what’s new from Walker Zanger, Buster + Punch and Newport Brass:
Ellington by Walker Zanger
Drawing inspiration from Art Deco design, Walker Zanger’s Ellington collection encapsulates the geometric elegance of Art Deco architecture with cues from the organic curves of Art Nouveau to create a timeless stone tile inlaid with brass metal.
While the design Swing is an obvious reference to rhythmic movement, Empire is directly connected to New York’s moniker as The Empire State and uses dimensional brass inlays to recall the look of a New York skyscraper lobby at the heart of the Jazz Age.
“As an homage to Art Deco, incorporating brass into natural stone tile for our Ellington collection references the iconic architectural and geometric designs of the era,” said Jared Becker, VP of design for Walker Zanger.
Other patterns identify with signature hotels and destinations of the time where the likes of Duke Ellington entertained. For example, the hexagonal Savoy is not only named after the famed Harlem nightspot (the Savoy Ballroom in New York City), but also a reference to the jazz standard “Stompin’ At The Savoy.” The Carlyle pattern celebrates the Roman Grille design and is named after the Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle in Washington, DC, and the starbursts of Pierre reference The Pierre hotel in New York during the 1920s and 1930s. The Ellington collection offers a sextet of patterns by highlighting four stone options (Pearl, Ebony, Carrara and Cinder) and brass metal to pay homage to the influential and elegant design era.
Electricity by Buster + Punch
The Electricity collection from Buster + Punch offers an innovative, stylish upgrade to traditional electrical switches and outlets, making the contemporary design aesthetic within reach of designers who want every detail of their environment to be delivered in style, down to the packaging. The toggles and dimmer knobs in the Electricity collection are finished with Buster + Punch’s signature knurling, effectively eliminating mundane, plastic home fittings and replacing them with matching or contrasting solid-metal wall plates finished with specially designed penny button screws as an essential accent. Engineered and code approved for North America, Electricity works perfectly in commercial settings and comes to life when used to actuate a Buster + Punch light.
“We’re driven to transform forgotten interior details into extraordinary objects. Our work with quality, solid metal brass materials and a combination of handcraftsmanship and innovative machining techniques is visualized in everything we do. Our Electricity collection—with signature diamond-cut knurled detailing and brass English penny screws—offers a beautiful upgrade for any hotel room and a tactile experience that will resonate with each guest,” said Massimo Minale, founder/creative director for Buster + Punch.
Kirsi by Newport Brass
The Kirsi collection by Newport Brass, shown in polished brass, includes lavatory faucets, tub and shower sets, Roman tub fillers and matching bath accessories. All Newport Brass products are constructed of solid brass and available in 27 finishes, including PVD options. “The Kirsi design was inspired by a minimalist aesthetic with strong edges and precise, clean lines for seamless integration into any hotel bathroom design. It features prominent, ADA-compliant angled handles that perfectly complement its matching spout,” said Larry Chen, product manager for Newport Brass.
