Sometimes a house is so clean and so sleek, it makes a person wonder: Does anyone actually live in it? We often find ourselves asking that question when it comes to the work of Fran Silvestre Arquitectos. The Brazilian architecture studio is known for its minimalist approach to minimalism—all white, hard angles, and glass.
The studio’s latest is no exception. The stark white house in Rio de Janeiro is built from two rectangular boxes are stacked on top of each other in opposite directions to create an L-shaped layout. The dramatic facade is matched by an equally white and striking interior furnished sparsely with black and gray pieces.

Both volumes have long spans of glass windows that allow lots of natural light to bounce off the white surfaces. The lower level is home to the kitchen, dining room, and living room, which open out onto the patio and pool. The second story is mostly bedrooms. The overlapping layout lends an opportunity for a covered terrace, as well as an expansive back patio complete with an infinity pool.
