There are less distractions: If you work in a simple environment- there is less physical distraction around you. Any unnecessary items only serve to help your mind to wander off task. A clear space can help you to focus on the job at hand and not waste time procrastinating about the things around you that you believe need your attention.

You are more likely to keep on top of your paperwork: If you are a minimalist- chances are you don’t want a huge pile of papers to sort through at the end of your working week. This lifestyle will make you more aware of the papers you generate daily- what’s important and what can go right into the shredder.

There is less likelihood of digital distraction: Minimalists are less likely to spend their lunch hour shopping for things they don’t need or having a cheeky glance on social media because they try to make the best use of their time. This might mean a brisk walk to get the creative juices flowing for the afternoon or leaving some time to plan for the next day.

There is an opportunity for a good work-life balance: Minimalists are all about spending time meaningfully- both professionally and personally. So, if your day is focused and simple- chances are you will finish when you should to enjoy your personal time.

You won’t get diverted by the rest of your home either: If you work in an office but need to walk into other parts of your home to make a drink or get a snack- you may get side tracked by tasks about the home like dirty dishes, clothes that need to be laundered or recycling that needs putting out. If you keep on top of these activities in your own time- you won’t be pulled in the direction of house chores when you are supposed to be working.

Quality over quantity: Many minimalists are willing to pay a little extra for something that is good quality rather than risk spending less only for an item to wear out quickly. If you work at home and have a good quality desk and chair, writing equipment and electronics, this will make life more comfortable and more streamlined too.

A minimalist mentality: Minimalism can be applied to almost every area of your life- including the way you approach your work. It may encourage you to have shorter but more meaningful conversations with colleagues over the phone, write more succinct emails and put together more concise reports, reviews or presentations- depending on what kind of work you do.

If you do work from home and haven’t tried minimalism yet- it could be the answer you have been looking for!
