After presenting a dynamic show of original artworks by Brooklyn-based artist Julia Chiang, NANZUKA returns with an upcoming exhibition on visual art heavyweight, Jean Jullien. The French artist will soon present a selection of paintings at the Tokyo-based gallery as part of a presentation entitled “Lesconil.” The show marks Julien’s second solo presentation in Japan, following his previous show at GALLERY TARGET last year.
The show’s title pays homage to the French port town Plobannalec-Lesconil where the artist’s family originates. The paintings to go on display at the exhibition portray minimalist depictions of that town where he spent his childhood including serene scenes by the sea and pictorial landscapes such as his family’s home garden. A total of 30 paintings on canvas including sculptures will go on view at NANZUKA.
Coinciding with the launch of the exhibition, the artist teamed up with the gallery on collaborative editions, coach jackets, tees, and Japanese-style happi coats embellished visuals designed by the artist himself.
“Lesconil” will commence on October 11. Visit NANZUKA’s website for further details.
