Dunelm’s lighting department is packed with living room lighting ideas that we’ve been mining for some time. Today, we wanted to bring you the best of its superb collection of floor-standing lighting. Each one has a distinct style and particular benefits. So, if your lighting needs oomph or your living room is feeling a little cold and unwelcoming, read on to find out which one (or two) suits you best. And by the way, we think many of these buys would be fab in a bedroom, too.
1. A contemporary take on an arc lamp
Okay, our favourite first: the . We’ve seen lamps just like this for £100s elsewhere, but at Dunelm it’s only £79. But other than the amazing price, why else would you buy it? First, the arcing nature of the stand: it allows you tons of flexibility in focussing the shade over different areas of a room, but mostly it’s best set over a chair, as in the pic above, to create a cosy glow over somewhere you might sit to read. Second, the shade is gold-coated inside – and even with the coolest LED lightbulb, that throws out some seriously warm light. Just what we need on chilly evenings in our all-white minimalist living rooms.
2. An Anglepoise lookalike
The original Anglepoise has been a design must-have for donkey’s years, and Dunelm has a couple of takes on its books, but this is our favourite. The , £109, has soft lines and a fun colourway that makes it perfect for modern or retro-style living rooms, but home offices and kids’ rooms, too. And at that price, we might just have more than one…
Pssst! That’s the behind it… see the floor lamp version below.
3. A bamboo light to embrace the Eastern trend
Japanese style accessories have been a hot trend for a good year already – and it shows no sign of slowing down. Why do we love it? It’s a go-with-anything look that can fit seamlessly in contemporary and trad schemes alike. This , £89, emits a warm light and makes for an attractive, sculptural piece, too. We also want one of these. Note to selves: get more living rooms.
4. A Mid-century modern eye-catcher
We’d buy this , £130, for its looks alone – forget about what it’s like as a light. Happily, it’s a fab mood setter: the shape of the opaque shade means that light is thrown downwards, creating a cosy atmosphere in even the largest or sparsely furnished of rooms. A must-have for winter.
5. A rustic lighting idea that’s a bit industrial, too
We’ve blown the metaphorical trumpet of the , £75, before. But we’re doing it again unashamedly because it’s one of those buys that you get when you’re 20 (wages allowing) and still love when you’re 50 (speaking from experience). It goes with every single scheme you can think of: just as happy in a country-style room as a Mid-century style space as a contemporary apartment as an industrial-feel loft. And at £75 it’s affordable, too.
