Today is the kickoff of Amazon’s annual Prime Day Sale, where under-the-radar scores are plentiful even as a question lingers in some minds: Do we really, truly need more stuff? The answer, of course, is a qualified yes. If we’ve learned anything over the past several months—as our homes have intermittently doubled as office cubicles, classrooms, and makeshift gyms—it’s that less is certainly more, according to the wise and uncluttered Mies van der Rohe. But if that philosophy proves true, then what we do choose to live with should serve us particularly well. Fewer, but better.
This group of 15 products aims to strike exactly that balance of good design and utility and joy, to borrow a word from another kind of minimalist, Marie Kondo. For the beauty savant, there’s the cult-favorite NuFace device, which uses microcurrent to sculpt and energize the facial muscles, along with smart skin-care essentials from Perricone MD and StriVectin. A classic Stila eyeliner is a mask-era must, along with Oribe’s Gold Lust shampoo and conditioner (treat yourself). There are wireless Beats earphones for outdoor runs, a new Vitamix for healthy eating, and even a SodaStream. Mine has become an MVP in the kitchen, and good hydration (fizzy or flat) is a pillar of well-being. Factor in the sale’s steep discounts, and the collection still abides by less is more—for less.
