In her previous life as an actress, Meghan Markle might have gotten used to walking down red carpets, but now that she’s changed her career to being a duchess, there haven’t been quite as many of those events in her daily diary—although there’s still plenty of glamour built into the royal schedule, of course. But on Sunday, July 14, Markle attended The Lion King premiere in London with her husband Prince Harry on her arm, marking her first red carpet appearance with him and as a royal. An iconic moment to be sure—made even more so by a subsequent hug with Beyoncé—but what really caught our eye? The chic LBD she was wearing.
The elegant tea-length gown by Jason Wu Collection was minimalist and chic, featuring mesh paneling and sleeves with a black bodice and skirt. Markle wore the $2,450 dress, which is quickly selling out, with Aquazzura heels, a $2,300 satin Gucci clutch featuring a delicate butterfly clasp, and a sleek low bun.
Here’s a full-length look at her dress (and her and Prince Harry looking ridiculously happy):
Markle and Prince Harry also stopped to greet fans who were waiting alongside the carpet, which was both lovely of them and let us see the back of her dress.
Of course, inside is where it all really happened: She and Prince Harry met Beyoncé and Jay-Z (the two are apparently huge fans of Markle’s). Name a more iconic moment in history; we’ll wait.
Prince Harry and Markle reportedly attended the premiere because the Royal Foundation is helping support the Protect the Pride, a campaign to raise awareness for the diminishing lion population that Disney launched with the The Lion King‘s release.
If only Markle still had The Tig, and we could look forward to her review of the film. Instead, we’ll keep hoping for more red carpet appearances—and beautiful dresses.
