Katie Holmes Is Making a Convincing Case for This Minimalist Sneaker Trend – Yahoo Lifestyle

The “ugly” dad-shoe trend isn’t for everyone. Though Jennifer Lopez recently brought the controversial fashion craze back onto the scene, that certainly doesn’t mean you have to love it (or try it yourself). That said, if you’re on the hunt for a pair-with-everything sneaker that people won’t associate with your dad’s questionable fashion choices, Katie Holmes’s go-to athletic shoe is likely to be right up your alley.

They’re sleek, simple, and easy to wear — three key things to look for when buying a pair of “forever” sneakers. Because, unlike the chunky, lugged-sole trainers celebs like Kourtney Kardashian, Kaia Gerber, and Lopez have been wearing this season, streamlined white kicks are slightly less difficult to wear (as in, you can team with with everything in your closet without fail) and they won’t go out of style, either.

Just take Holmes as proof. The actor strutted around NYC in her white Common Projects Original Achilles Sneakers all of last year (really, it’s hard to find a photo of her in 2019 not wearing them). By the looks of it, she’ll be rocking this minimalist footwear stunner on repeat in 2020, too — and we’re quickly following suit.

Holmes’s all-time favorite sneakers are, in a word, classic. They boast a clean, white leather upper and a lace-up front that makes them chic yet perfectly low-key. That’s probably why she wears them with everything, whether that’s an ultra-comfy gray sweatsuit, coordinating white jeans, or an all-black outfit.

The actor’s exact pair rings in at $411, which may seem like a lot for sneakers, but break it down to cost per wear (i.e., the cost divided by the total number of times you wear them), and you’ll be surprised it’s probably less than that of some of your more affordable finds.

Holmes’s Common Project sneakers are still available at Nordstrom in nearly all sizes. But if $411 is too much for you, you’ll be happy to know that the sneaker market is chock-full of similar shoes that don’t cost quite as much, which means you’ll have no problem finding a footwear stunner that replicates Holmes’s favorite pair.
