India is home to the best budget smartphone offerings, with multiple great devices under the INR 20,000 segment. India is an extremely competitive market, where smartphone manufacturers are forced to provide very high value-for-money products. There’s also a barrage of Chinese companies which have now set up manufacturing facilities in India to bring down costs and import duties.

These are the best budget smartphones in India under INR 20,000 as of July 2019, in no particular order:

Samsung Galaxy M40

The Samsung Galaxy M40 is the top model of their budget M-series of smartphones. The M40 borrows a few design elements from the flagship series such as a punch-hole Infinity-O display, USB type-C and a triple camera setup. It is powered by the Snapdragon 675 chipset, with 6GB of RAM.

 

The M40 has a 6.3-inch TFT panel and has a rather compact form-factor. On the back, we get a primary 32-megapixel shooter along with an 8-megapixel ultrawide shooter and a depth sensor. The battery is rated at 3,500 mAh and comes with a 15W fast charger. The software skin is One UI over Android 9 Pie.

Honor 20i

The Honor 20i was the most affordable one from the Honor 20-series, which are known for their designs. Available in a myriad of gradient finishes, the 20i looks better than your average budget smartphone.

 

It is powered by the Kirin 710 chipset with 4GB of RAM. The LCD display is 6.2-inches diagonally with a teardrop notch for the front camera. As for cameras, we get a triple camera setup consisting of a 24-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide shooter and a depth sensor. The battery is rated at 3,400 mAh and comes with a 10W fast charger. The software skin is EMUI 9 over Android 9 Pie.

Realme 3 Pro

Realme has become a household brand in just a year of existence thanks to their extremely well-priced offerings in the budget segment. The Realme 3 Pro is the most expensive phone they sell in India. It has a pretty minimalist design with a plastic back and the camera array on the back.

 

Powered by the Snapdragon 710 processor and 6GB of RAM, the 3 Pro is one of the most powerful devices one can get for the price. There’s also a large 4,045 mAh battery with a 20W fast charger. The back has the 16-megapixel primary camera paired with a depth sensor. The software package is ColorOS 6 over Android Pie.

Nokia 8.1

The Nokia 8.1 was launched earlier at a price of almost 30k, but recent price drops have brought it squarely in this category. For those who prefer a legacy brand with an extremely premium design, the 8.1 should be on your radar.

The 6.2-inch LCD display with HDR compatibility is a rarity in this segment. Internally, it is powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset with 4GB of RAM. The battery is a 3,500 mAh unit with 18W fast charging. There’s a 12-megapixel primary camera assisted by a 13-megapixel secondary sensor. It’s the only phone on this list to run stock Android, and is a part of the Android One project.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro

Xiaomi’s Redmi-series of phones have been best sellers in India since a few quarters, and the Note 7 Pro is the crown jewel of that lineup. We get a 6.3-inch LCD panel with a dot notch.

Internally, we have the Snapdragon 675 runnings things with up to 6GB of RAM. The battery is a 4,000 mAh unit with 18W fast charging. There’s a 48-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It runs on MiUI 10 over Android Pie.

Pocophone was launched last year as a sub-brand of Xiaomi for higher-end devices. The Poco F1, which is due for a refresh, has now come to this price segment owing to multiple price drops recently.

 

The Poco F1 is powered by last year’s flagship Snapdragon 845, and up to 8GB of RAM. It brings a 6.2-inch LCD panel, a 4,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging. There’s a 12-megapixel primary camera with a depth sensor. As for software, it runs on MiUI 10 with Poco launcher, over Android Pie.
