This alarmingly good red tech will get you hot under the collar – Wired.co.uk

“There is certainly a red for everyone,” said Christian Dior, and while the famous fashion designer may well have been referring to his latest couture creation, we’re of a similar mind when it comes to product. To prove our point, here we have selected the hottest new scarlet-hued gear ranging from an extremely limited-edition Patek Philippe right through to a minimalist alarm clock.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A Singapore Grand Exhibition

Created for last year’s Grand Exhibition in Singapore, Patek has taken its iconic steel sports watch and given it a crimson makeover. This classic Aquanaut is 40mm in diameter, with a time-and-day display thanks to Patek’s caliber 324 SC, and a vivid red rubber strap. Luxury sport watches are a hotly contested category, but the Aquanaut, which was first released in 1997, remains a solid choice for those who appreciate both form and function. The signature cross-hatch black dial remains here, but is elevated by a red minute track and tropical rubber strap (the hue is a nod to Singapore’s signature colour). It’s also limited to just 500 pieces, and will likely prove so popular that the full run may well be snapped up before it is even released. If this is the case, fear not, because if colour is what you are after, at Baselworld 2019 Patek announced the 5168G range of Aquanauts in white gold in both blue and green for £30,390.

Snow Peak BBQ Rod

A novelty, maybe, but like so many of Snow Peak’s products, there’s ingenuity and engineering a-plenty on show. Load up the BBQ Rod’s hooks with marshmallows, hotdogs, or even an actual fish, dangle over the fire and when the time is right, give the line a gentle tug and the end will flip, helping to ensure perfectly cooked results, without a crudely whittled stick in sight.

Lampuga Air Inflatable Jetboard

A blessing for all the hatchback-owning electric surfboard obsessives out there, Lampuga has managed to engineer an inflatable, fully functional ride. We’re talking a 14hp, 50kph, double-layer PVC hull jetboard that can fold down into the most meagre of boots, thanks to the detachable 3.7kWh li-ion battery pack that slots seamlessly in the centre once it has been inflated.

Combine that with a huge 280-rhythm style library, and you can do all the genres, or import your own genius to have on hand at gigs. There’s onboard storage for 99 phrase memories and 50 user rhythms, plus support for expanded control via footswitches, pedals or a MIDI.

Segway Villain 1000SH

Ah, Segway – the vehicle of choice for the forward thinking, Silicon Valley dwelling, kings of coding. But wait – what’s this? A fierce looking Segway hybrid ATV that delivers up to 181bhp and a hulking 259Nm of torque channeled through the rear wheels? Yes, the brand for urban explorers has created a four-wheeler dual A-arm suspension in the front and a multi-link trailing arm in the rear, plus three cooling systems and both a downhill braking system and four-wheel hydraulic brakes for added safety. Hi-vis tabard and elbow pads no longer required.

Punkt founder Petter Neby creates products designed to do their job without intruding on their owner’s time and attention, and nowhere is this design ethos better illustrated than with the AC01 alarm clock. It’s a sleek, minimalist design in solid aluminium with scratch-resistant glass – we assume for those unwelcome early starts – and an LED light if you need to know the time in the small hours. That’s it. It’s an alarm clock, and a whole lot better for your health than your smartphone.
