It’s never too early to start planning a romantic getaway for Valentine’s Day (or make it a regular old spring fling!). And you don’t have to look far for options in the Hudson Valley, which require only a tank of gas and an adventurous spirit.

We have lots of options for an overnight or weekend, from a tiny house resort (yes!) to an inn created from the former elephant house at the Catskill Game Farm to a newly opened spa. Ready for your road trip?

Stay at a spa

Mirbeau, Rhinebeck

This new 50-room resort features French-inspired architecture with a 12,000-square-foot spa as its cornerstone. The spa features 14 treatment rooms, each with a fireplace, along with eucalyptus-infused steam rooms, Himalayan salt saunas, a resting area with fireplace and meditation rock, and an outdoor Aqua Terrace with hot whirlpool and private bar. Mirbeau’s “My Valentine” package, which runs through the entire month of February, includes one overnight accommodation, a Honey and Me couples massage (which includes a glass of champagne) and $150 toward dinner at Willow, the on-site Charlie Palmer restaurant.

If you don’t stay overnight, there is a Valentine’s Day prix fixe dinner for $75 per person. Book it: 46 W. Market St., Rhinebeck; 877-647-2328, rhinebeck.mirbeau.com

Get cozy (really cozy)

Tiny House Resort, South Cairo

If you’ve always wondered how anyone can live in a “tiny” house, book a weekend in this tiny house resort situated along the Catskill Creek. Each home is fully equipped with linens, kitchenware, heat and AC, a full bath, an outdoor patio and grill. When you’re not snuggled up indoors, there are trails to hike, including one to a waterfall.

New this year, and ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway, is the “Tiny Wellness Cottage,” basically a mini spa! Come spring, the resort is expanding to 11 tiny houses and adding Goat Yoga (in April) and a heated pool (in May). Book it: 2776 County Route 23B, South Cairo; 518-622-2626; atinyhouseresort.com.

For Galentine’s and fur babies

Emerson Resort & Spa, Mount Tremper

Grab your girls and head to the Emerson Spa for a weekend of pampering — and then head to the resort’s Woodnotes Grille for handcrafted cocktails with ingredients sourced from the local Hudson Valley area.

The 53-room resort, and its 10,000-square-foot spa, reflect the beauty of the Catskills. If you seek a more rustic stay, book one of their “Lodge Rooms,” which take their inspiration from log cabins. The Girlfriend Getaway package includes a two-night stay for four people (two per room) starting at $1,362 and a $100 Emerson Spa credit per person.

You can bring your fur baby, too, for a $50 Pupgrade (it includes a welcome basket complete with a dog toy, bowl, place mat and treats). The property features a dedicated 60-foot wide by 100-foot long park just for canines with a dog run, doggy shower, fresh running water and a special area for smaller dogs, too. Book it: 5340 Route 28, Mount Tremper; 845-688-2828, emersonresort.com.

Go for the food

Tarrytown House Estate, Tarrytown

At the recently refurbished Tarrytown House Estate in Tarrytown, celebrity chef Dale Talde has opened Goosefeather. The space in the King’s Mansion on the property is striking, with a decor that’s “Downton Abbey” meets uptown-funk with a little bit of “Alice in Wonderland” thrown in. Talde serves “modern Chinese fare highlighting the trifecta of Hong Kong cuisine, BBQ, noodles and dumplings.”

After dinner, retreat to one of the Georgian-era suites (there are 10) in the King Mansion or head to the fitness center or indoor pool. Did we mention the property is pet friendly?

The entire property was once home to wealthy gentry who gravitated to the area in the mid-1800s. You can tour two such estates that are open to visitors: Lyndhurst or Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, both just minutes away. Book it: 49 E. Sunnyside Lane, Tarrytown; 914-829-5454, tarrytownhouseestate.com.

Stay at a country inn

Troutbeck, Amenia

Ranked among the best new hotels worldwide on Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List, this country inn might be the Hudson Valley’s hottest accommodation. A haven for four centuries of artists, poets and intellectuals, you’ll find it hard to resist holding court fireside with friends old or new, which is best followed by an overnight stay in a room guests like Teddy Roosevelt could have slept in. Though you’ll be just as welcome for dinner and drinks, especially now that Clark Moore (he was in charge of the bar at Harper’s in Dobbs Ferry) has taken over the beverage program. He’s got a full roster of libations made for cozying up to the fire.

For Valentine’s Day, Troutbeck is offering a package that includes a three-night stay, breakfast in bed, Laherte Freres Rose champagne and chocolates. Book it: 515 Leedsville Road, Amenia; 845-789-1555, www.troutbeck.com.

Be trendy, trendy, trendy

Hotel Tivoli, Tivoli

The Hotel Tivoli, formerly the Madalin Hotel, sits at the heart of the village of Tivoli.  Under the ownership of contemporary art power couple Brice and Helen Marden, the 1909 landmark has been completely transformed into a sophisticated eclectic-chic inn The hotel also includes the 100-seat Corner Restaurant in a portion of the building which highlights high-fashion farm-to-table dining and craft cocktails. It reopens Feb. 7 after a winter break. Book it: 53 Broadway, Tivoli. 845-757-2100; hoteltivoli.org.

For nostalgia

The Long Neck Inn, Catskill

In its heyday, the Catskill Game Farm attracted generations of visitors, and it’s fondly remembered even today. The Game Farm once housed a couple thousand animals, many of which roamed free and were accessible to visitors who could hand-feed some of them. But as times and attitudes changed, the Game Farm came onto hard times and eventually closed in 2006. Now, the former giraffe house has been transformed into the Long Neck Inn with five guest rooms — Elephant Room overlooks what once was the Elk Pen — and four glamping sites outdoors. While you’re there, you can explore the property. Book it: 400 Game Farm Road, Catskill; 518-719-9172, thelongneckinn.net.

When you want to unplug

The Sprucetown Inn, West Kill

The Sprucetown Inn is your place if you want to get back to basics. There is no WiFi (unless you really, really need it, then head to the front desk to connect). The Inn is minimalist in design with nine rooms, simply furnished with the basic necessities (including a microwave, some condiments and a private bathroom). But the real draw here is the sprawling scenery, the opportunity to get outside and experience it, and the sense of community you share with your fellow guests. Book it: 2080 Spruceton Road, West Kill; 518-989-6404, info@sprucetoninn.com.

Get in balance

YO1, Monticello

The Winter Wellness package is an ideal way to try it out. It includes overnight accommodations, a massage and use of the property’s fitness center, pool, steam room and sauna. For those who want to stay longer, guests get a personal counseling session where their dominant dosha (imbalance) is identified. From there, a customized plan is created which includes a combination of therapies and a meal plan based on your dosha, filled with juicing and organic fare. Book it: 420 Anawana Lake Road, Monticello; 855-200-6004, www.yo1.com.

For quiet contemplation

Roundhouse, Beacon

You can walk to restaurants, bars, the Howland Cultural Center and The Towne Crier, for live music. The Roundhouse offers 23 rooms in two renovated and restored former industrial buildings. Its onsite restaurant will offer a special Valentine’s dinner, offered both Feb. 14 and 15, which includes four courses (oysters, lobster, filet mignon among them). Book it: 2 E. Main St., Beacon, 845-765-8369; rhbeacon.com/reservations.
