A ray of minimalism – Bangkok Post

With a thickness of less than 5mm, True Thinline is Rado’s slimmest high-tech ceramic watch with a minimalist design.

This year, the Swiss watchmaker has collaborated with three renowned designers in creating limited editions, each available in 1,001 pieces.

Spanish designer Inma Bermudez normally works on everyday objects, such as lighting, vases, clocks, kitchenware, textiles and bathroom fittings.

Her design for Rado combines faceted sapphire crystal, cut to look like an enormous diamond, with a textured relief dial that recalls the many objects she has crafted in porcelain.

A play of light absorption, reflection and refraction creates an illusion of depth and thickness in the resulting white True Thinline Gem, accented by tiny diamonds and golden detailing.

In contrast, golden elements shine on the matte-black True Thinline Studs fashioned by British designer Bethan Gray.

Taking inspiration from her furniture and textile designs, this model features a grey marquetry pattern dial and golden logo while the grained black leather strap is offset with golden studs in a hopscotch pattern.

Russian designer Evgenia Miro is known for applying symbolism in her works that range from delicate china to decorated silk.

The deep blue colour of True Thinline My Bird represents wisdom, nobility and spirituality. The lightness of the high-tech ceramic is symbolised by a delicate feather pattern, laser-engraved on the monobloc case and bracelet.

The feather is also placed diagonally across the dial between 1 and 7 o’clock to represent productive hours, while a digitally printed bird appears on the sapphire crystal caseback, to symbolise freedom as well as tenderness and refinement.
